It is based on fundamental research by Eiken Foundation of Japan, The Japan Institute for Educational Measurement, Inc. of Oubunsha Group who is currently developing and operating this internet based English proficiency test. The test applies CAT(Computerized Adaptive Testing) based on IRT(Item Response Theory). CAT is a system which modifies the difficulty of the subsequent questions based on the examinee's previous attempts. This allows shortening of time and accurate skill measurement compared to the paper based tests. Unlike the randomized question generating computer test type, CAT maintains high accuracy measurement system that is equal to the qualification tests such as TOEIC(R) and Eiken. CASEC can be taken online at any time and the score is immediately show at the end of the test. The score history is saved on record and can be seen at any time at no cost.

A5	In CASEC, there is a time limit for each question. If the time taken to answer each question is maximum, the test will take approximately eighty minutes to finish. The average time to finish the test is approximately between forty to fifty minutes.
